Setup
Install the helper on your Mac, pair your iPhone, and you're done.
1. Install the Glassport Helper
- Download the helper and unzip it.
- Open Glassport. If macOS asks whether to open an app downloaded from the internet, click Open.
- Glassport moves itself to the Applications folder in your home folder, and its icon appears in the menu bar. It starts automatically at login.
2. Allow two permissions
In System Settings › Privacy & Security, turn on Glassport under:
- Accessibility — so taps and keys from your iPhone reach the Mac.
- Screen & System Audio Recording — so the Mac's screen can be shown on your iPhone.
The Glassport menu shows a ✓ next to each permission once it's on.
3. Pair your iPhone
- Open Glassport on your iPhone and tap Add a Mac. Macs on the same network appear automatically.
- Tap your Mac. A code appears on the iPhone and on the Mac.
- If the codes match, click Allow on the Mac. You only do this once per iPhone.
Use it away from home
Glassport has no cloud server. To reach your Mac from outside your home network, put both devices on the same private VPN, such as Tailscale, then add the Mac on your iPhone by its VPN address.
Keep the Mac awake
A sleeping Mac can't answer your iPhone. In System Settings › Energy, turn on Prevent automatic sleeping when the display is off.
Troubleshooting
- The Mac doesn't appear on the iPhone. Make sure both are on the same network and that Local Network is on for Glassport in the iPhone's Settings › Privacy & Security. If the Mac's firewall is on, open System Settings › Network › Firewall › Options and make sure Glassport is allowed.
- Switching Mac users. Close Glassport on the iPhone before switching to another user account on the Mac.
Unpair an iPhone
In the Glassport menu on the Mac, open Paired iPhones and choose Unpair. Do this if an iPhone is lost.
Uninstall
In the Glassport menu on the Mac, choose Uninstall Glassport…. It removes the helper, its login item, paired iPhones, logs and privacy permissions. Delete the iPhone app separately.
